Presenting my lovely girls
It was a great last sunday afternoon/night spent with yue, pris and char (wan and ching are missing...) having coffee (love the souffle in Bakerzin~) and shopping! I'm thankful we can still keep our friendship despite not spending a lot of time together (we're all in different schools, different countries!)...

lovely, dainty cupcakes baked by our resident chef, yue. isn't she sweet?

YAY!

Shine On!

The beauty of the Christian faith
Recently, i have discovered many things that made me treasure my Christian faith, accumulating into this entry: The beauty of the Christian faith.
I have always been thankful to God because I get to know Him early as a Father, Providence and Comfort. He is near all the time, like a mother close to her fragile baby. The gods that the world offer are impersonal and foreign but God is forever there, listening to my every struggle.
Another special thing is that it is a singing faith - a faith that expresses itself in songs and music. I enjoy making melodies and that is what God enjoys as well, making it such a pleasure to worship Him.
Also, this faith enables us to live life to its fullest, through its ups and downs. I always cast my eyes heavenward so that even in hard times, I know it is temporal and I should look forward to better days.
Such is the beauty of this faith.

Oh! I met KK today in school. Apparently, his company sent him for this lecture in my school on defence science. He was smiling in glee, proudly saying that he still gets paid even though he is out on training course. HAHAHA. Cheeky.

French lessons anyone?
Yue's latest entry is so hilarious! Here, i copied part of her entry... * yue, hope you don't mind!

"My french homework: describe a true friend (5 lines or more)

l me pardons toujours.Quand un vêtement ne me va pas, il le dit!

A true friend telephones to me when I am not well.
It me ready money when I not to have it.
When I speak, it pays attention to me. (I pays attention when it speak too.)
It makes me a small gift on my anniversary.
It me forgiveness always.
When a clothing does not suit me, he says it!

If there is one thing ntu doesn't lack, it's toilets.
There are toilets EVERYWHERE, EVERY CORNER! i am not exaggerating.
Walk 10 steps down, one toilet. Turn another corner, one more toilet! walk a few more steps, yet another toilet!!!
Toilets toilets everywhere,
All for us to use.
Incontinence is not given a chance!

I can't be silly
It's official. I live in world where people can only make me laugh with stupid jokes. If i try to crack some super hilarious STUPID joke, people end up with blank faces. That's what happened when i tried to say one to weiching today. Funny stupid jokes die in my hands. Demoralising, yes. But somehow, it shows that I am in too high a standard to be saying such jokes. I work with intelligent jokes. HAHAHHAHAHAHA.
alright alright! i admit defeat. SIGH.

Time slipped away without bidding farewell
I had a good belly exercise while flipping through pre-historic photos of our primary school days and our Youth "Baby Cell" days while at angie's house last sunday. We were walking fashion disasters!!! (Hint: Sarah's pleated skirt with pink giordano KIDS shirt. Me in my BROOM HAIR, pre-braces days). I had such a fun time laughing and reminiscing the days when the older ones in Youth had to give in to us. NOW, we are THE ONES doing the coaxing and giving in.

Then angie started complaining about how her primary school teacher used evil methods to get students' attention. He shoots rubber bands at them and hurls chalk dusters on them. Goodness. If this teacher does that today, he is going to be sued for attempted murder!
The teachers have got it good last time. That's not the case these days. That's why, I always tell myself I wouldn't be a teacher after i graduate!
Unless God tells me to. So far, He hasn't done that. I'm still safe. PHEW.

Black and white ivories-those days of practising on them
Listening to Cher's band concert today brought me down memory lane.
There were two pieces that the band played that were also pieces for both my grade 2 and grade 5 piano exams.
The familiarity of the music, every staccato, every crescendo, made me enjoyed it thoroughly, giving me a sense of pride because of the connection i have with both pieces. Ahh.. those days of practising under mrs neo's (my piano teacher) guidance - it was bittersweet. Piano lessons were actually quite nerve-wrecking for me you know! I am afraid to slip on my notes in front of mrs neo.. But at the same time, I enjoyed the praise i got from mrs neo when i played well.

But now, I no longer have the stress for piano exams and it has a positive effect on me. I am able to appreciate even more of the strict discipline for piano practice. Well, this is good.

*MORE GIFTS OF MUSICALITY RAIN DOWN ON ME, O good Almighty Lord! I am playing for sunday service... *breaks into cold sweat* but i'll trust in Him who is the giver of music to hold my fingers when i play.

CNY Reunion
I am going for a buffet.. a buffet, like last year's reunion dinner! YAY! I'm gonna empty their chocolate fountains and drunken prawns. Ya right. Haha. YUMMY!

Anyone?
Hey anyone interested in watching a play? I want to watch a play that's funny and interactive... and affordable.
Or is anyone interested in going for a classical music concert? i wanted to go to vienna boys' choir performance when they came to town last year. But aiya, no time and the ticket is pretty pricey.
Anyone? Ok, no one.
I am going to meet up with my jc friends next week :)

Discover
I just came back from prayer meeting, exhausted but at the same time, anticipating God's revelation each week. During the prayer meeting, I told God I want to learn about my identity in Him. Who am I?
I have been studying and reflecting on God's various names recently so this time round, I want to know mine.
What are the names that I've been given, that reflect my relationship with my great Almighty Father?
And it came. I am called a servant-daughter and Moses, to lead my family (esp. my 2nd uncle & 3rd uncle) into a purposeful, Christ-centred life. A life of hope and beautiful dreams...

Flashbacks
Recently, I have been having many flashbacks of my jc days. I thought of mr nandwani, his ramly burger economics and spooky stories about the old nyjc building, my first 3 months, how i got to make good, no, wonderfully good friends, my loving and fun classmates and our class unity, mr tong, crazy times that i had in the drama room, story-writing in lectures... and a poem that miss mel kwok gave in our last lit lecture.
It's entitled "If" by Rudyard Kipling and this last stanza inspired me most on how a leader should be.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And- which is more- you'll be a Man, my son!

I MISS JC!!!
sob.

AstroGirl!
i am taking astronomy this semester. to clarify, it's not astroLOGY, which deals with things like zodiac signs; it's astroNOMY-the study of constellations and galaxies. just in case you think i'm an aspiring palm reader...

so, i attended my first lecture today with 20000000 other people. haha! the humongous lecture hall is filled with sooo many people. reminds me of nus' philo lect that i crashed last year.
The lecturer has this cute hong kong accent albeit with a weird sense of "cold" humour.

here are some heavily-accented quips he made during the lecture that will leave you shaking your head in mock disbelief.

On explaining what is a star:
"a star is a star."
duh.

on explaining the milky way:
"why is the milky way galaxy called the milky way? (pauses) because it looks very milky."

whhhaaaaat?????? i was expecting a more scientific answer!

midway his lecture, an old cleaning lady walked across the hall where he was standing, in front of everyone, oblivious to the 20000000 eyes fixated on her and the lecturer's. it was such a comical moment i tell you!

ntu is such a funny place.

i can't wait for ntu crusade's potluck tomorrow at hall 13. wheeeeeeeee...

The sunset on sunday
On my way home on sunday, God lavished a beautiful-beyond-words sunset for me while i was in the train.
I could still remember it vividly.
The whole sky was painted in rich volcanic orange and flaming crimson, interspersed with warm violet hues in the backdrop of fading azure blue.
It was like a scene of an African plains in its dusk, without the giraffe silhoulettes that is.

Nonetheless, it was a splendid moment of pleasure, a glimpse of true richness.

Why so cheap?
Have you heard about this? Apparently, budget airline AirAsia is offering their air tickets from KL to Britain for a mere $0.99!
Are they committing an economic suicide?

Here are some reasons I speculate why they are selling their tickets at such a riduculous price.

1) Their pilots may not have passed their exams. Well, AT LEAST, they know some theory. So, can already lah.
2) The air crew's uniforms must be sewn by Ah Huay Clothes Pte Ltd, not Armani Exchange.
3) The food they serve may be leftover scraps from SIA Catering.
4)) Their air stewardesses, instead of using Bobby Brown or M.A.C for make-up, use cheaper brands like XiaoLongNu Cosmetics.
5) Their seats are wooden stools with rafia string as safety belts.

Disclaimer: They are MY silly speculations, all in the name of fun, and may not be true. I don't want AirAsia to sue me!!!

I WANT PRIMARY SCHOOL KIDS.
I am a paedophile.. heh heh. Ok nah.

I just need to give tuition. Textbooks this semester are insanely expensive!

The almost-there backpack trip
I dug out my old notebook that I used to doodle in my JC days, and I realised I nearly went on 15-days trip to US. The initial plan was to spend 4 days in washington, 1 day in boston and the rest in new york, by the off-beaten way and on a shoestring - staying in youth hostels, carrying backpacks and visiting the UN headquarters & the Museum of Modern Arts. I was so excited at that time, looking up travel guides in the library to source out unique streets to visit. Yet, in the end, it didn't materialize.
It seems like a pity but I guess it wasn't the right time.
If it were the right time, many wouldn't object to it. Oh wells, it's the past. So I shall look forward to better days. US is for me to conquer! *wink wink*

School is starting next Monday.

I am a wedding invitation coordinator
This is getting so fun! shuhui asked me to be her wedding invitation coordinator! Ooh, it's interesting. i have the power to decide who in RYM will attend shuhui's wedding on july! Haha. So, if you want to stay on the invitation list, be good. TO ME.

SCHOOL is on 8th Jan.

John Mayer and James Morrison
Both my favourite singers and guitar-players, with the same initials as well!
I like to indulge myself in their mesmerizing music that is so apt for a lazy afternoon, immersing myself in sharp guitar riffs, flowing jazz-like piano accompaniments, bright synthesizers and melodic bass lines.
U2's compilation album has been amazing as well. Their songs stir up something deep down inside of you that makes you want to cry. When Bono (the lead singer) belts out with all his emotions, it thugs your heartstrings. COOL STUFF, they are.

School starts next Monday.

URGH. Yes yes, I KNOW! School starts next Monday. I am looking forward to it, somehow.

Thank you for your reminders, inner thoughts.

A wonderful end to 2006
1) Metamorphosis Camp 26-30th Dec
It was a great camp to know more Crusaders from different faculties of ntu, having fun together and learning biblical lessons together. Those guys have so many silly games up their sleeves!
While on the train for Project X, the camp's outdoor street-e event, my group mates started guessing one another's schools.
All of them thought that i was from a girls' school! Ha.. Because they think I
look like one. Interesting.
But of course, I am not.
I am from Riverside Sec - a school relatively unknown to 97% of Singaporeans (the 3% are Riversidians themselves).

Ok anyway, from Project X, I am also assured of my gift of street-e. guess what?
2 girls, Jiale and Jessie whom my senior and I approached, said the sinners' prayers and accepted Christ as their Friend and Saviour! Praise God. More names in the Book of Life :) For them, a loving heavenly Father to talk to now!

2) Clarke Quay + Reflections + Resolutions + 31 Dec 06 = Good time
After church service, the initial plan of going for a movie was cancelled, so we girls strolled to the riverside near clarke quay to chill.
We were just letting our hair down and having fun with the new game i taught them. The forfeit? Drawing one sushi on our hands for every mistake. Hee.
We had a time of reflection as well, reflecting on God's blessings to us this year. I looked back and say WOW! I had a fruitful year. There were ups and downs but i learned so much more to live as a person. I can't help but feel immensely satisfied with 2006.
I have resolutions but there are just too many to list down. So yea, shan't bore you all to tears.
To end 31 Dec 06 and herald 2007, mom bought sushi from ichiban boshi for supper with her vouchers! YAY! Sarah and i, at the sight of the dainty handrolls and sushi, threw our healthy eating mantra into the dustbin.

3) Great results
I checked my results on 29th Dec for my 1st uni exams. I did pretty well! I could not believe my eyes because Psychology was such a killer but i got a B! Phew. And that was my lowest grade. If this is not God's grace, I don't know what is. It kept my spirits up for the next few days!

2nd day of 2006
FAMILY FISHING & SUMPTUOUS DINNER AT "ULU" (our family code for this great zi char place)
I spent half the day fishing with my uncles, aunts and cousins at this newly-opened park at Seletar. They paid 70 bucks to fish but sadly, we didn't catch anything while the ah peks 50m away from us caught some big ones.
Boo hoo hoo. But I'll consider it money spent for family bonding.
After being fried in the afternoon sun, we drove to "ulu" for dinner.
Dinner was delectable with soft & tender asam fish (slurp), crispy cereal prawns, fish maw soup... etcetc.
The only downside was the blend stir-fried veggies which, in the words of 2nd uncle william, tasted like GRASS.
Whichever way, i still enjoyed dinner and the terribly hot afternoon I was fried in was forgiven after that fulfilling meal.
